General

Do I need a referral?

+

No. You can self-refer directly. If you have a referral from a GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist, please email it to the admin team before your appointment.

What does Ella assess for?

+

ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, combined ASD and ADHD presentations, learning difficulties including specific learning disorders, psychoeducational profiles, and cognitive and adaptive functioning.

What age groups do you work with?

+

Children from early school age, adolescents, and adults 18 and over.

Is this therapy?

+

No. Ella’s work is exclusively assessment. If therapy is recommended following an assessment, she will guide you toward appropriate services.

Can I attend via telehealth?

+

The initial parent interview (child cases) and the adult Phase 1 interview can be conducted via telehealth. Some Phase 2 components must be done face-to-face — cognitive testing, ADOS-2 observation, and direct assessment sessions with children. Ella will advise what is possible for your specific assessment.

If my goal is medication, do I need a psychology assessment?

+

Not necessarily. If your primary goal is exploring medication, the most direct pathway is a referral from your GP to a psychiatrist. Ella does not prescribe medication. Not all psychiatrists require a psychological assessment before an appointment, though some may refer you to a psychologist as part of their process.

02

The Process

What happens in Phase 1?

+

Phase 1 is investigative. It includes a clinical interview, review of background documents and questionnaires, school or informant contact where relevant, and a clinical formulation at the end. It is not a commitment to a full assessment — it’s the process of figuring out what the right pathway actually is.

What happens after Phase 1?

+

You will receive a clear recommendation. This might be a formal assessment (Part 2), a treatment plan, a clinical formulation letter for your GP or psychiatrist, or a referral to another professional. If a formal assessment is recommended, you will receive a fixed-fee quote before anything is booked.

What if Ella recommends I don’t proceed with a full assessment?

+

This is a valid outcome. You will receive a clinical formulation letter summarising the findings, which you can take to a GP, psychiatrist, or other treating professional. Phase 1 fees still apply — you are paying for the clinical time and formulation work regardless of outcome.

What happens in Part 2?

+

Part 2 varies by assessment type and may include structured diagnostic interviews, cognitive or academic testing, standardised questionnaires, school or collateral input, and review of background information. A detailed diagnostic report is provided at the end of the process, discussed in a feedback session.

How many appointments will we need?

+

This varies by assessment type and individual complexity. Ella advises on the exact number after Phase 1. All appointments are listed in the Part 2 quote before you commit to anything.

How long does the full process take?

+

Most assessments take several weeks from Phase 1 to the final assessment appointment, depending on availability and how quickly questionnaires and documents are returned. The report is then completed within 8–10 weeks of the final assessment appointment.

What is the treatment plan option?

+

Some people complete Phase 1 and decide a formal diagnostic report isn’t what they need. If there’s enough clinical clarity, Ella can work with you to develop a written treatment plan mapping identified difficulties and practical strategies. This can be shared with your GP, treating psychologist, or other allied health professionals. It does not constitute a formal diagnosis.

03

Diagnosis & Reports

Will I — or my child — receive a formal diagnosis?

+

A diagnosis is provided only when DSM-5-TR criteria are met and supported by evidence across multiple sources. If criteria are not met, Ella will explain the findings clearly and provide recommendations that are still clinically useful.

How long do reports take?

+

Reports are generally completed 8–10 weeks after the final assessment appointment. You will be kept informed throughout the process.

When is the report released?

+

Reports are released once all outstanding payments have been received.

Will the report be accepted by the NDIS?

+

Ella’s autism assessments are completed in line with the National Guideline and co-signed by an endorsed psychologist. This generally meets the NDIS evidentiary standard for autism diagnosis. However, the NDIS makes all final decisions about access and funding — no clinician can guarantee approval.

Is the report enough for school funding in WA?

+

For most WA school funding applications, the Department of Education expects a comprehensive assessment report following the National Guideline, plus confirmation from at least one additional practitioner from a different discipline. Ella’s report typically forms the primary evidence. She will advise during the feedback session on what additional documentation your situation may require.

04

Fees & Payments

How much does Phase 1 cost?

+

Phase 1 fees are itemised and billed as each item is completed. The initial intake session is $405. Additional sessions if required are $270 each. Document review is $150. Questionnaire administration is $60. A clinical formulation letter, if the client does not proceed to Part 2, is $250. You will always be informed before any additional appointments are booked or charged.

How much does Part 2 cost?

+

Part 2 fees are fixed and quoted in full after Phase 1. See the adult or child assessments pages for full fee schedules.

Do you offer payment plans?

+

Yes. Payment plans are available for Part 2. Contact admin to discuss your options before your assessment commences.

Are Medicare rebates available?

+

Medicare rebates do not apply to adult assessment services. For children and adolescents under 25, Medicare rebates may apply to autism assessments with a valid referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist. Contact admin for further information.

What about private health cover?

+

Private health rebates may apply depending on your policy and provider. Check directly with your insurer before your appointment.

Can NDIS funding be used?

+

NDIS funding can be used if your plan is self-managed or plan-managed by a third party. Contact admin to discuss before booking.

Does every child need cognitive testing?

+

Cognitive testing is included in child ADHD, ASD, combined, and psychoeducational assessments as standard. It can be removed from child ASD and combined assessments at Ella’s discretion, with a $405 reduction applying. For adult ASD and combined assessments, cognitive testing is absorbed into the Part 2 fee.
