Assessment Process
-
Part 1 includes:
A detailed parent or adult interview
Review of developmental, educational and medical history
Screening for ASD/ADHD or other concerns
Discussion of goals and questions
Determination of whether a full assessment is appropriate
-
Part 2 may include:
Standardised diagnostic interviews
Child observations or ADOS-2
Cognitive/IQ testing
Academic assessment
Questionnaires
Teacher or collateral input
Integration of multiple sources of information
-
This varies.
Ella provides the exact number after Part 1, based on your needs and the assessment type. -
Most assessments take several weeks from Part 1 to feedback, depending on availability and how quickly documents/questionnaires are returned.
-
Reports are usually completed 8–12 weeks from the final assessment appointment.
Diagnosis & Reports
-
A diagnosis is provided only if DSM-5-TR criteria are met and supported by evidence across multiple sources.
-
Ella will explain the findings in detail and provide recommendations.
Sometimes symptoms are present, but not enough for a diagnosis - this still provides valuable information for support planning. -
Ella’s autism assessments are completed in line with the Australian National Guideline and co-signed by a psychologist with an endorsed area of practice. This usually meets the NDIS preference for evidence of autism diagnosis when a child otherwise meets eligibility criteria. However, the NDIS makes all final decisions about access and funding, and no clinician can guarantee approval.
-
For most WA school funding applications (e.g. Individual Disability Allocation in the autism category), the Department of Education expects evidence that follows the National Guideline. This typically includes:
A comprehensive assessment and diagnostic report, and
Confirmation from an additional practitioner from a different discipline (for example, paediatrician, speech pathologist, occupational therapist or another psychologist). Perth Kids Hub
Ella’s report often forms the primary piece of evidence, but schools may still request additional documentation. The school makes the final decision about eligibility and funding.
Telehealth
-
In Part 1 the Parent only appointment, and Part 1 completed for adults can be done via telehealth.
Some components of Part 2 must be done face-to-face (e.g., child observations, cognitive testing, ADOS-2).
-
A quiet, private space and a stable internet connection. Video calls are preferable.
Otherwise we can do via phone.
Fee’s & Payments
-
Part 1 costs $400, payable before the appointment.
This fee covers the parent consultation/clinical interview and document review. -
Fees depend on the assessment components needed. All fees are provided on this website and on the document emailed to you by the admin team.
A tailored quote is provided after Part 1.
-
Yes. Payment plans are available once Part 2 has been confirmed.
-
Reports are released once all appointments are completed and full payment is received.
-
Medicare: Only available for Autism assessments for individuals under 25 with a paediatrician/psychiatrist referral
Private health: May be available depending on your cover
NDIS: Only if the participant is self-managed or plan-managed
Cognitive Testing
-
No. Cognitive testing is recommended only if:
Learning difficulties are suspected
School adjustments or funding may be needed
Intellectual disability, giftedness or uneven learning is a question
It helps clarify diagnostic questions
-
Not always.
Some assessments automatically include cognitive testing (such as ADHD, learning/SLD assessments, and most child autism assessments).
For others - like adult autism assessments - cognitive testing is only added when it will meaningfully improve diagnostic clarity or recommendations. If needed, it can be added for $350.
Adult ADHD assessments do not include cognitive testing.
